п»їRonaldo, Messi, Romario - who are the top goalscorers in football history?
#12 Zlatan Ibrahimovic | 565 goals.
Arguably the greatest Swedish footballer of all time, Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to shine in front of goal as he approaches the ripe age of 40.
A towering figure, both mentally and physically, Ibrahimovic has bagged goals wherever he has gone, starring for some of Europe's best clubs.
His unique brand of playful arrogance earned him plenty of detractors during his career, but none can take away from his prowess as a goalscorer.
#11 Tulio Maravilha | 575 goals.
During his peripatetic, 24-year career, Tulio claims to have scored more than 1,000 goals. However, his personal figure included friendlies and games at amateur level.
Still, his final haul of 575 goals is nonetheless impressive, particularly when one considers that 13 of those strikes came in just 15 appearances for the Brazilian national team.
#10 Uwe Seeler | 575 goals.
Renowned for his aerial prowess and spectacular scissors-kicks, Hamburg icon Uwe Seeler is one of the finest forwards Germany has ever produced and an incredibly reliable source of goals for both club and country.
He hit 575 in total - and in just 649 appearances too, giving him an amazing 0.89 goals-to-game ratio.
#9 Ferenc Deak | 576 goals.
Ferenc Deak's achievements may have been overshadowed by his compatriot Ferenc Puskas but the Hungarian striker was an outstanding goalscorer in his own right.
Deak averaged more than three goals a game for first club Szentlorinci AC (220 in 72 appearances) before joining Ferencvaros, where he struck 200 times in just 140 outings.
He also racked up 29 goals for his country and, though it is not known just how many matches he played at the highest level, he ended his career with a grand total of 576.
#8 Eusebio | 623 goals.
Known as O Rei in Portugal, Eusebio was one of the most prolific goalscorers of the 1960s and 1970s, spearheading a Benfica side which dominated domestically and conquered Europe.
An iconic figure in Lisbon, fondly remember by fans across the world, Eusebio boasted an incredible goals-per-game ratio, with 623 goals in 639 games.
#7 Gerd Muller | 735 goals.
The supreme poacher, Gerd Muller was renowned for his predatory instincts in the penalty area.
The Bayern Munich icon, who scored the winner for West Germany in the 1974 World Cup final, averaged more than a goal a game at international level (68 in just 62 matches).
A short and stocky striker blessed with explosive power, 'Der Bomber' bowed out with an overal record of 735 goals in only 793 matches.
#6 Lionel Messi | 746 goals.
Regarded by many as the greatest player in history, Lionel Messi is as exceptional at taking chances as he is at creating them. Indeed, to date, the diminutive Argentine has racked up 742 goals in 946 outings.
Furthermore, while he has now entered his thirties, Messi is arguably more complete than ever before, meaning the sky remains the limit for a player considered "an alien" by goalkeeping great Gigi Buffon.
#5 Ferenc Puskas | 746 goals.
Ferenc Puskas was known as 'The Galloping Major', a key man in two of the greatest sides in football history: Hungary's 'Magnificent Magyars' and Real Madrid's 1960 European Cup winners.
He was small, portly and his right foot wasn't particularly strong; his left, however, was a cannon and, with it, he scored the majority of his 746 goals, which came in just 754 games.
#4 Pele | 767 goals.
Regarded by Franz Beckenbauer as the greatest player of all time, Pele was also one of the most prolific forwards the game has ever known.
A three-time World Cup winner with Brazil, 'The King' netted 767 times in just 831 appearances, meaning he boasts a staggering strike rate of 0.92 goals per game.
#3 Romario | 772 goals.
Brazil legend Ronaldo says he learned about the art of goalscoring from Romario, a man described by former Barcelona coach Johann Cruyff as "a genius" in the penalty area.
Indeed, Romario was one of the most clinical finishers the game has ever seen, as underlined by his record of 772 goals in just 994 games.
#2 Cristiano Ronaldo | 777 goals.
After starting out as fleet-footed winger, Cristiano Ronaldo transformed himself into a goalscoring machine.
The Portuguese superstar has broken one record after another, posting tallies in the Champions League that may never be surpassed.
Remarkably, as he heads into the other side of his thirties, he has shown little sign of slowing down and continues to hit the back of the net at an impressive rate for Juventus.
#1 Josef Bican | 805 goals.
The most prolific goalscorer in football history, yet few know the name of Josef Bican.
A star in Austria in the 1930s, he was a member of the side that reached the 1934 World Cup semi-finals, but he actually continued playing until 1955, eventually retiring at the age of 42.
By that point, Bican, a two-footed forward blessed with sprinter-like pace, had racked up 805 goals.
Some team-mates even claimed he'd actually scored more than 5,000 - something that Bican never denied, simply saying "Who'd have believed me if I said I'd scored five times as many goals as Pele. "

Portugal’s all-time top four goal-scorers.
Portugal’s national football team announced itself with a bang at the 1966 World Cup as the Seleção played in its first major tournament and the Eusébio-inspired Seleção finished third. It remains the best finish in World Cups in Portugal’s history.
Yet it is from 2000 onwards that the country has truly found its feet as one of the major contenders in each World Cup and European Championship, consistently fielding teams boasting some of the best footballers in the history of the game. It is little surprise, therefore, that three of the top four goal-scorers for the Seleção are from the modern era.
PortuGOAL profiles the top four all-time goal-scorers for Portugal’s national football team.
Cristiano Ronaldo (102 goals in 170 matches)
One of the best players in football history, Cristiano Ronaldo occupies first spot on the list. The living legend has clocked up 170 matches and 102 goals to date for the Seleção, making him the most successful player ever to wear Portugal’s shirt. Besides being a fan-favourite, bettors like Ronaldo as well because he is a goal-scoring machine. Take a look at Efirbet online, and you will find bookies that have excellent odds for Ronaldo and his current team - Juventus.
Cristiano has won the Ballon d’Or five times, as well as 30 major awards in his glorious career, including five UEFA Champions League trophies. What’s even more impressive is that the player holds the record for the most goals and assists in this tournament. It should not be forgotten that the Champions League is considered the highest quality football played anywhere on the planet.
Ronaldo’s incredible achievements in his club career have been transposed to the international arena. Before 2000, Portugal only qualified for 4 of the 26 World Cups and European Championships held in the 20th century. Since the turn of the millennium, the Seleção has not failed a single qualification. It is no coincidence that the recent success has come at a time when Ronaldo has been a fundamental part of the Portugal team, culminating in the Euro 2016 triumph.
Pauleta (47 goals in 88 matches)
Second place belongs to Pedro Pauleta, who retired in 2010 after a superb career spanning two decades. Interestingly, he never played in Portugal’s Primeira Liga, spending most of his career in Spain and France.
He helped Deportivo La CoruГ±a become La Liga champions in 1999-2000 but it was at Paris Saint-Germain that the Azores-born striker enjoyed his most prolific years. He became top scorer in Ligue 1 three times, at a time when the Parisian team was not the monied super club it would later become.
Pauleta was a metronomically consistent goal-scorer for club and country. A highlight of an otherwise forgettable World Cup for Portugal in 2002 was Pauleta’s brilliant hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Poland in Jeonju, South Korea.
His brace in a World Cup qualifying match against Latvia in 2005 saw Pauleta surpass Eusébio’s long-standing record to become Portugal’s top goal-scorer. He would go on to net a total of 47 goals while winning 88 caps for the Seleção.
EusГ©bio (41 goals in 64 matches)
Eusébio, who passed away on 5 January 2014 at the age of 71, is one of football’s all-time greats. He scored a barely believable 733 goals in 745 matches during his career, making him one of the best goals-scorers in the history of the game.
Nicknamed the Black Panther, and also known simply as O Rei (The King) in Portugal, EusГ©bio played a major role in bringing Portuguese football to prominence as his goals fired both Benfica and Portugal to success on the international stage.
EusГ©bio first achieved acclaim in football circles when he helped Benfica win a second successive European Cup in 1962, scoring two goals in the final in a 5-3 victory against Real Madrid. But in 1966 he became a true global superstar as his explosive performances at the 1966 World Cup saw him crowned top scorer at the tournament, with nine goals as Portugal finished third in their first participation in the competition.
In total Eusébio’s 41 goals in 64 games for Portugal gives him the best goals to game ratio of all the players on this list.
LuГs Figo (32 goals in 127 matches)
Luís Figo is the only midfielder on this list, making his haul of 32 goals for the national team all the more impressive. Figo played for some of the world’s best football clubs during his career. His transfer from Barcelona to Real Madrid will remain one of the most controversial in the history of the sport, and he also enjoyed considerable success at his final club, Inter Milan.
The leading light in Portugal’s famous “Golden Generation”, Figo helped Portugal win the 1991 FIFA World Youth Cup on home soil, beating Brazil in the final, and the role he played in turning the Seleção into a major force in international football cannot be underestimated.
Figo was part of a thrilling side that reached the semi-finals of the European Championship in 2000 and which many people in Portugal still consider to be the nation’s greatest ever team. Figo enjoyed continued success for the Seleção in the twilight of his career, playing a major role at Euro 2004, where Portugal reached the final, only to lose to Greece in Lisbon, then at the 2006 World Cup when the national team reached the semi-finals.
Until recently, Figo held the record for the most caps for the national team, and still today only Cristiano Ronaldo has played more times for Portugal.

Top 10 free kick goal scorers of all time.
November 6, 2019.
When we talk about free kick takers, one will be hoping to see Ronaldo and Messi topping the chart. Sorry to burst your bubbles, they are not even in the top 10 free kick goal scorers of all time. Messi has scored a total of 50 free kick goals while Ronaldo has scored 54.
Now who actually made up the top free kick goal scorers of all time.
10. Marcelinho Carioca.
On the number 10 is a Brazilian player, Marcelinho Carioca. He was as clean a striker of the ball as you could wish to find, and such immaculate technique played a major part in his prowess from set pieces.
Capable of striking either from distance or closer range, he could impart brute force or delicacy, putting swerve, dip, curve or whatever he wanted on the ball.
Such was his prowess with a dead ball that he earned the nickname Angel Foot.
Perhaps outside of Brazil he isn’t as well known as he should be, but you cannot deny his excellence with a set piece.
Number of free kick goals: 59.
9. Rogerio Ceni.
Rogerio Ceni, the greatest goalscoring goalkeeper of all time. Rogerio Ceni, scorer of 59 free kicks, the ninth best total of anyone, ever. Rogerio Ceni, the Sao Paulo hero who scored 132 goals in his career, putting himself in the ten greatest all-time scorers at the club.
Rogerio Ceni. Quite literally, a man like no other.
Number of free kick goals: 59.
8. Ronald Koeman.
Ronald Koeman, first of his name, shall be known from here on in on as: ‘Ronald Koeman, Eighth Greatest Scorer From Free Kicks Ever’.
Sure, it’s a clunky nickname, but it’s completely factual. If you want the perfect distillation of Koeman’s set piece dexterity, and it’s wild variation, then watch that stonker against Sampdoria in the 1992 European Cup final followed by that deftest of dinks against England in 1993.
Number of free kick goals: 60.
7. Zico.
You may not have heard of Arthur Antunes Coimbra, but you’ve definitely heard of Zico, his one-word moniker. One of the first true free kick specialists, he outmanoeuvred most goalkeepers armed with just his all-encompassing footballing intelligence and a two-step run-up.Indeed, such was his ability from that range, his Brazil teammate Leonardo Nascimento de Araújo has been quoted as saying: “For us, a free kick from the edge of the penalty area was almost like a penalty. For Zico, it was almost a goal already.”
Some put his record at 62, others stretch it to 101, but one thing’s for sure, he was a master.
Number of free kick goals: 62.
6. Diego Maradona.
Diego Maradona is the best player of his generation and one of the best of all time. The Argentina legend was a great free kick taker, his body balance and skill allowed him to fly the ball in the opposition net.
Number of free kick goals: 62.
5. David Beckham.
The former England captain’s prowess from free-kicks is perhaps the most well documented of any player on this list, with the phrase ‘Bend it like Beckham’ immortalised in popular culture and commonly heard during his career at some of the world’s leading clubs.
Perhaps because of what he has become—something more than a footballer—his legend is looked upon through rose-tinted glasses.
However, there can be no doubt about his ability when that ball was dead some 20-30 yards from goal.
With wonderful technique, Beckham could fly the ball with such fantastic whip and pace that he invariably made quite the habit out of scoring goals that were simply fantastic.
Number of free kick goals: 65.
4. Ronaldinho.
Probably the best technician ever to have played the beautiful game, Ronaldinho can find the net from any angle with a free-kick.
The Brazilian legend was a specialist if the ball was 30-35 yards out.
Number of free kick goals: 66.
3. Victor Legrottaglie.
Unsurprisingly South Americans feature highly on this list, though the name Victor Legrottaglie is perhaps not the first talent from the continent that would immediately spring to mind.
The Argentine midfielder spent his entire professional career in his homeland and would score prolifically from set-piece situations, reportedly attracting interest from clubs such as Real Madrid and Inter Milan, though he chose to remain in Argentina until his retirement in 1974.
Widely regarded as Mendoza’s greatest footballer, he sits ahead of the likes of Juan Roman Riquelme and a certain Lionel Messi as the most prolific Argentinean free-kick taker.
Number of free kick goals: 66.
2. Pele.
Well, yeh. Some aggregators may have him at second in the all-time free kick scorers list (with 70 goals), but how many of those came as part of the 526 he scored in unofficial games and coordinated friendlies? We don’t know.
Even more pressing than that, though, is the fact I have received many a Pele lecture in my life, most of them justified, but not one has leaned on the player’s set piece prowess.
Number of free kick goals: 70.
1. Juninho Pernambucano.
Juninho scored 77 goals from free kicks in his career, including 4 goals from over 40 yards out. Juninhos insane scoring record has made him one of the greatest free kick takers of all time.
Number of free kick goals: 77.

Top 10 highest goalscorers in football history.
Football is, by far, the most popular sport in the world. The game has been around for centuries and is currently played by over 250 million people from more than 200 countries around the world.
Naturally, the sport has seen some of the highest goal scorers in football over the years, with many of them etching their names in history books because of their feats and achievements.

Note: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are still actively playing and score goals more often than not. As a result, depending on when you're reading this, some numbers may vary.

A prolific striker, Puskas was considered a crucial figure in the intimidating Hungarian national team. Scoring 84 goals in 85 games for Hungary, he was an important part of the 'Golden Team' that once went on an unbeaten 32-game streak, winning the 1952 Olympics along the way.
At Real Madrid, he won 10 major trophies in 8 years. By the end of his career, Puskas had officially scored an astonishing total of 746 career goals in 754 matches at a stunning rate of 0.99 goals per game.

At Santos, PelГ© made a vast number of records his own - many of which still belong to him. He has made the most appearances and scored the most goals for the club.
PelГ© also represented the Brazilian national team for 14 years (1957-1971), winning 3 FIFA World Cup trophies (1958, 1962, 1970) with the Selecao.

He also played for three different Nations - Austria (1933-36), Czech Republic (1938-49), and Bohemia and Moravia in 1939. While he is believed to have scored approximately 1470 goals throughout his career, this figure is said to include goals in unofficial matches.
At the end of a mammoth 27-year career, Bican retired in 1955 as the most decorated goalscorer in the history of the beautiful game.
